ELDERS

Retirees are an especially potent and underutilized Great Turning leadership resource. They are the demographic most likely to have achieved a spiritual or wisdom consciousness, have the freedom of financial independence and an empty nest, and posses a wealth of experience and influential connections. They are well represented at Korten’s presentations. We are working with several well-placed partners on a cooperative effort to change the story on aging from resignation to engagement and to mobilize this generation as a powerful force for change.

• The Eldering Institute - Wisdom in Action, is "...about getting the most out of life and realizing the possibilities of growing older with passion, power and fulfillment." This still young Institute will be offering courses in "eldering," on-line resources, coaching and collaboration.

• Conscious Aging of New Mexico: The Conscious Aging Network of New Mexico is a gathering of individuals who believe in the potential of Conscious Aging to enhance the quality of our lives. They share a belief that our later years can be a time of growth, discovery and joy, a time in which we seek wisdom, participate fully in the human family, and create a legacy for future generations.

• Gary Carlson, Ph.D., offers these resources: Mobilizing Elders for Earth presentation and a Suggested Reading List from the Navigating The Great Turning Conference in Columbus ((2007). Gary is a co-director of the Sage-ing® Group of New Mexico, a leader of the Conscious Aging Network of New Mexico and a Certified Sage-ing® Leader as well as Treasurer/Membership Chair of the Sag-ing Guild. He and his wife, Charlotte, lead classes and workshops on Sage-ing.
